PV panels fall in price

With the drop in costs of installing photovoltaic (PV) panels, more and more householders are taking advantage of the government’s Feed in Tariff (FIT) and getting PV panels installed on their roofs.

EPC in Bacup, Rossendale

Whilst  in Bacup, Rossendale, to carry out an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate), I turned into a street in which almost every property had PV panels installed.

Energy concious councils get PV

PV panels generate income for Rossendale council

The properties are owned by Rossendale council and are used to house the elderly. The benefits of the council adding PV panels to their properties are great:

  1. They begin to improve the energy ratings of their properties to comply with the government’s C02 pledge
  2. They gain a substantial income from the FIT.
  3. The occupants have access to free electricity and so have lower electricity bills.
As more and more properties now have panels on the roofs, the PV panels become less noticeable and as a result, more acceptable. The current FIT for panels installed after 1st August 2012 is 16p/kWh, provided that the EPC achieves a D rating or higher. For less energy efficient properties, the FIT drops to 7.1p/kWh.

If you are considering installing photo voltaic panels on your roof, book your EPC now to ensure that you will qualify for the higher rate tariff, and find out what improvements you can make to your property to raise it’s rate to a D.
