An EPC and a glass of wine

I was lucky enough to be asked to carry out an energy inspection for an EPC at a property in Haslingden, Rossendale. I arrived promptly, and with a quick look around the outside of the house, I established it was of solid construction with a basement and a room in the roof.

I was greeted by a lovely Italian gent, who proudly showed me around his well maintained property. There were no great surprises. It was a charming property that was now to large for the couple whose family had all grown up and flown the nest.

And then I went down into the basement. The whole cellar was taken over with wine making equipment. And vats of wine. With a big grin, Guiseppe explained that he made his own wine, in the way his father had taught him. Grapes were imported from Italy for the best flavour, and no yeast was used, to ensure no headaches followed. It looked like a small commercial enterprise, but no, he made his wine solely for personal consumption.

May all his days be sunny

I asked what would happen to his wine when he moved, as the couple were planning to move into a flat in Rossendale. All plans were already made. His daughter’s garage is to be the location of the winery, at a mystery Rossendale location.

That evening I enjoyed a lovely glass of red. Cheers Guissepe.
