Top tips to keep your property in tip top condition – part 6

It’s easy to forget about your chimney stack, especially if you don’t have an open fire or stove. However, in most cases, the chimney stack is as old as the property and, like the external walls, needs regular maintenance.

On the next nice day why not go outside and take a look at the condition of your stack? Position yourself so that you have a good view of the chimney stack and with a digital camera, take several photos. Make sure you take photos from all angles.

Download the photos to your PC and have a look at the state of the pointing.  Make sure that it is all intact, that there are no weeds growing and the pots are seated securely.

It is important that your chimney stack is well maintained as neglect will inevitably lead to damp, and ultimately the collapse of  the chimney stack.
