Top tips to keep your property in tip top condition – Part 5

As of April 2012, Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) will need to collect data on the effectiveness of the property’s draught proofing when carrying out an energy inspection for the creation of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

This is because the effectiveness of your external door and window seals make a significant difference to the amount of heat lost from your property.  Double glazed units are all fitted with effective seals when they are installed but these do wear over time especially around windows that are opened and closed frequently.

Check your window seals are intact

Check the seals around each of your windows.  If they look worn, or are torn, get them replaced.  The cost of replacement will soon be saved on the reduction in your energy bills.  And you’ll feel warmer too.
