Why Check, Switch and Insulate?

You might have heard this phrase somewhere before. At the beginning of the week our Prime Minister introduced his latest campaign in the face of the big six energy providers who decided not to play ball and reduce energy prices.

So almost everyone should be getting cavity wall insulation and save 35% of the heat loss.

Insulate your loft to current standards. Most people only have about 100mm of loft insulation, enough to reach the top of the joists. The current building regulations recommend three times that amount, yes three times as much. You should insulate your loft to a depth of 300mm about a foot in old money.

Switch. I recommended this course of action in my last blog. By switching your energy provider you could save about £300 a year or more. There are the list of companies that can provide information on how to switch. There are 13 energy switch websites accredited by Consumer Focus the government web site
